POTS and dysautonomia

POTS symptom diary

Record dizzy spells, near-faints and palpitations as they happen, with your position and what was going on. Then give your doctor a clear picture of what's been happening between appointments.

Coming soon to iPhone and Android.

What to record for POTS

With POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), your heart beats faster than normal when you sit up or stand. Symptoms often come on when you're upright and ease when you lie down, and they can range from mild to severe and change from day to day. The POTS template asks about each dizzy spell or faint, so the details are written down while they're fresh. Fill in what you can and skip anything you don't know. You can always come back later.

  • Your position when it started
  • How long you'd been upright first
  • Your heart rate lying down and standing, if you measured it
  • Palpitations
  • Whether you nearly fainted or fainted
  • Brain fog
  • Fluids and salt
  • Compression wear
  • Whether you were hot
  • How long it lasted, and what helped

For when you can't stop to write

Log it in two taps

When you feel dizzy, two taps save the time it started. Fill in the rest when you feel better.

Let a witness fill it in

Most people with POTS don't black out, but some do. If you faint, the witness card asks the person with you what they saw.

Heart rate, as you entered it

If you measure your heart rate, type in the numbers lying down and standing. Kind Witness keeps them exactly as you enter them and never tells you what they mean.

Note what was going on

Certain things can bring on POTS symptoms or make them worse, such as heat, standing for a long time or a large meal. Tap any that were going on. Over time, your report shows how often each one came up, as plain counts.

Questions about POTS diaries

Does Kind Witness diagnose POTS?

No. Kind Witness is a diary. It records what you tell it and helps you share it. Only your doctor can tell you what it means. Read our medical disclaimer

Can a diary help before I have a diagnosis?

Yes. If you think you may have POTS but don't have a diagnosis yet, a diary shows your GP what happens when you're upright and what eases it. If your doctor thinks it could be POTS, they may arrange a stand test, which records your heart rate lying down and then for 10 minutes after you stand up.

Can I note fluids, salt and compression wear?

Yes. The POTS template has a place for each, so they sit alongside your symptoms in every entry.

Can I keep track of my medicines?

Yes. Record each medicine with its dose and when you take it, tick a missed or late dose, and mark when a medicine or dose changes. Anything else you notice can go in an entry in your own words.

Can I track POTS alongside EDS or long COVID?

Yes. POTS can come with other conditions, such as hypermobility, ME/CFS or long COVID. Choose every condition that applies when you set up. Each entry uses the template you pick, and reports can show each condition on its own or all together. EDS and hypermobility diary

Is my diary private?

Your diary is stored and encrypted on your phone. Nothing leaves it unless you send it. How we protect your diary

Is there a paper version?

Yes. The free printable symptom diary asks the same basic questions as the app, so you can fill it in by hand. Printable diaries
