With long COVID, get urgent medical help if you have any new symptoms such as sudden chest pain or tightness, difficulty breathing, confusion, seizures, fainting or collapse, a rapid heart rate that doesn't settle with rest, or worsening anxiety or mood, or thoughts of harming yourself. If you need help now, call your local emergency number (000 in Australia).
ME/CFS is a long-term illness that causes extreme fatigue, and it can be disabling. Its symptoms can get worse after physical or mental activity, sometimes hours or days later, and recovery can take weeks. This is called post-exertional malaise (PEM). Long COVID is the name for the long-term symptoms some people have after COVID-19, and PEM can be one of them. The template asks about each crash or flare, so the details are written down while they're fresh. Fill in what you can and skip anything you don't know. You can always come back later.
When you've no energy to spare, two taps save the time it started. Fill in the rest on a better day.
PEM can come hours or days after the activity that set it off, so the template asks what you did in the days before, not just on the day.
Use the same scale each time. Over the weeks, your report shows the pattern of better and worse days.
PEM can follow physical or mental activity. With ME/CFS, emotional strain, being upright, or more than your senses can take in can also bring it on. Tap any that were going on. Over time, your report shows how often each one came up, as plain counts.
No. Kind Witness is a diary. It records what you tell it and helps you share it. Only your doctor can tell you what it means. Read our medical disclaimer
Pacing means carefully planning rest and daily activities to manage your energy. One part of it can be keeping a diary of the activities that bring on your symptoms, so you learn the signs that they're about to get worse. Talk to your doctor or care team about what pacing should look like for you.
Yes. The template is called ME/CFS and long COVID. Long COVID symptoms can last weeks or months, and they may be there all the time or only some of the time. Common ones include tiredness, shortness of breath, brain fog, headaches and sleep problems. A symptom diary helps you and your doctor keep track of them.
With severe ME/CFS, you may be unable to leave the house and need help with daily activities. Two taps record when a crash started, and you can fill in the rest later, or not at all. Someone who cares for you can add entries too, marked as theirs.
Yes. Each entry asks how you slept, and the daily check-in records how many hours. Not feeling refreshed after sleep is a common ME/CFS symptom, and sleep problems are common with long COVID too.
Yes. Record each medicine with its dose and when you take it, tick a missed or late dose, and mark when a medicine or dose changes. Anything else you notice can go in an entry in your own words.
Yes. Long COVID can bring symptoms of POTS, and with ME/CFS you may feel dizzy or faint when you stand up. Choose every condition that applies when you set up. Each entry uses the template you pick, and reports can show each condition on its own or all together. POTS symptom diary
Your diary is stored and encrypted on your phone. Nothing leaves it unless you send it. How we protect your diary
